Fresh Start

"The best thing you can do for yourself is actively increase your surface area for luck to hit you. Go outside, travel more, go to new cafes, museums, events, take a new route home, go for hikes, see cities, countrysides, take your notebook, speak to people, ask questions, start businesses - go on more side quests. You can literally just do things, and the more you do, the more serendipity and synchronicity will find you."

The new school year started off flat out. Learning all the new intricacies of a workplace is exhausting, takes a lot of time and energy to feel competent and not feel like you’re constantly behind. Term 1 included, but was not limited to:

  • The Australian Open (tennis) and The Veronikas
  • House swimming and house athletics (I am in the red house at this school)
  • Valentine’s Day and the scavenger hunt we booked
  • Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix
  • Year 10 rock climbing camp
  • Term 1 break and Easter.

Overall, this term has been a lot. It’s been busy, yet restful, new and yet familiar. I am appreciative for it all and I’m looking forward to not being the new person going back to work. My schedule changes a bit for term 2 which will take some getting used to, but hopefully life will feel a bit more settled.

Michael is starting his assistant coaching role with the Melbourne Mustangs as he explores the world of coaching semi-pro hockey.

We’re off to Singapore for a few days during the holidays and praying for good weather, great food and a memorable adventure.

We’ll be back in Winnipeg in October for a couple of weeks for Michael’s sister’s wedding, and are already looking forward to reconnecting with everyone.

I can’t wait to tell you all about Singapore and how life in the next while unfolds!

With love,

Alex & Michael
